The Weekend Hotness: Chad endorses the Souplantation (8/31/08)
August 31, 2008
The next time you visit one of the Souplantation’s 109 family-friendly locations make sure to tell your server that Mr. Destructoid sent you in order to save 10 percent on your meal. Ok, so we actually can’t actually guarantee that they’ll give you a discount, but considering the huge plug Chad gave them during the Destructoid PAX panel they should definitely think about it.
Rare doesn’t want to make another Viva Pinata right away, EA is acting suspicious by giving away free stuff, and Nick loses a match of arm wrestling (although I hear his opponent cheats).

Nokia announce the 8800 Carbon Arte
August 31, 2008
A new addition to the premium 8800 Series has been announced by Nokia this week; the Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte. Carbon fibre, Titanium, Stainless steel and polished glass have been crafted to compose a third Arte in the collection. Motivated by architecture, aerospace and sports cars, the first class minded engineers of Nokia have used these materials to reflect a modern feel through the unique tones, textures and sculpted shapes that carbon fiber and titanium deliver. The 8800 Carbon has proven consistent with its seamless surface and substantial weight. Functionality wise it has succeeded it’s predecessors with an upgraded 4GB Flash memory and a vastly improved resistence to finger prints.
An impressive feature adopted from the previous Arte is the turn-to-mute silencing mechanism which lets users silence incoming calls by turning the mobile phone over on to its face. Nokia also include this feature in the upcoming Nokia 6600 Slide which benefits from a similarly luxurious design and build quality (though you can expect that to be down right more reasonable in terms of price!)
Organic Wallpapers that transform throughout the day and the unique tap for time feature are combined into an improved striking OLED display. A microUSB connecter and 3.2 megapixel camera complete the feature list.
Expected to launch in the UK in early October, click here to keep updated on the Carbon Arte and be the first to know when it launches.
Snowblind Studios bringing death, tanks to XBLA with Death Tank
August 31, 2008

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything from the Seatle, WA-based Snowblind Studios, the folks behind Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath. Here’s what they’re up to: working on an Xbox LIVE Arcade game, Death Tank!
If it looks similar to Worms or the PC classic Scorched Earth, that’s because it is. The multiplayer shooter features eight different landscapes that are altered when hit by tank fire, changing the battlefield as you play. The game will features Xbox LIVE play with up to eight tanks battling it out in either team play or free-for-all; four players can play locally.
Players may recognize Death Tank as a bonus game from the Sega Saturn title, PowerSlave, or later in the Saturn version of Duke Nukem 3D. The game’s original designer now works for Snowblind, and apparently his cries of "Can I make a Death Tank game? Can I? Can I?" have finally been heard.

PAX 08: The Destructoid Panel, part five: Grow some balls (Chad)

The wisdom of Chad Concelmo can be summed up in one sentence: "Sometimes there are moments in life where you just have to punch an old woman in the face."  This is some profound Zen shit but I’ll do my best to synthesize what our dolphin ambassador means. Making bold moves in your life to remove obstacles that stand between you and your blogging passion can make all the difference.
Growing balls and steering your life towards a career in writing will mean something different to each individual. Some of you may have demanding jobs that prevent a blogging schedule that you may need to scale back.  Some of you may be Amish and secretly blogging from an iPhone you concealed in. How sustainable is that?
There is a fine line between idiocy and being stupid enough to believe in your dreams, so Chad’s panel relays his personal experience of balancing a demanding external career and using what little time he has to the things he loves the most: play video games, share his passion through original features on Destructoid, make amazing podcasts for RFGO, and dine at SoupPlantation with a happy asian family and one disgruntled guy. Jim Morrison did say that "the West is the Best".
Important! There was also a moment where we thought his panel was going to turn into a Disney musical. If you would like Chad to serenade you in an upcoming podcast, please sign this petition in the comments below!

Global Ovi and Sync on Ovi launched by Nokia
August 31, 2008
The global Ovi.com website was recently unveiled by Nokia is intended to bring all their web services, including Nokia Maps, Files on Ovi, and Share on Ovi, all under one banner.
Furthermore, there is a new Ovi service out called Sync on Ovi and has been launched to enable both Series 40 and S60 powered Nokia mobile handset owners to easily sync their appointments, contacts, and notes with Ovi.

As Nokia owners can see the benefits of this new service are quite obvious as users will be able to easily manage their PIM data from a web browser and sync to any of their Nokia mobile phones.
The new Sync on Ovi system can also be used to keep two phones in sync, such as maybe a user’s personal and work mobile handsets.
You mobile operator will of course charge the user for all the data transfer the user makes, however Sync on Ovi is free to use.
