EA Showcase 08: Hands-on with NERF N-Strike for the Wii
August 15, 2008

NERF N-Strike is easily going to have the best peripheral ever made for a game. You will actually get a real working NERF gun that also doubles as the gun cradle for the Wiimote. There will be a removable one-shot NERF launcher where the Wiimote fits, and the NERF gun is even designed to accept the MotionPlus and allows for the Nunchuk to plug in for easy access.
There will be a story for the single-player mode, designed in a Saturday morning cartoon fashion, where the main character joins an elite NERF group and fights with NERF guns against robots. This is a kids’ game after all, so there won’t be any humans that are yelling out horrible one-liners to shoot at.
The game will support up to four players with around 24 events to play. I played a game with Emily from Ripten where we had to shoot as many balls as we could. Each time we hit a ball, a machine hanging above the stage would paint the ball your team’s colors until all the balls were destroyed.
Players will have access to 25 guns, 12 of which are real NERF guns and 13 of which are brand new NERF guns designed for N-Strike. I played with a handgun, an automatic rifle and a sniper rifle during my playtime.
The game basically feels like Time Crisis, but with NERF guns. The main downside to all of this is that the gun and game package will cost .99, and the gun by itself will go for .99. That’s a great price point for the gun, but no arcade-style on-rails shooter is worth more than . Both the gun and game will be out in your local videogame section and toy section this November 4 for the Wii.

August 15, 2008
Chartplotters, Gpsmap 2206 6.4″ Diag For boaters looking for value-priced, large-display color chartplotters with limited networking capability and preloaded marine cartography, the GPSMAP 2200 series chartplotters are right on course. The GPSMAP 2206’s 6.4-inch diagonal display lets you see more “big picture” navigation detail with less panning and zooming. Better still, this non-network plotter also comes preloaded with detailed marine cartography utilizing BlueChart g2 technology. The unit accepts up to two optional data cards for loading additional map coverage of inland lakes or BlueChart detail for other regions.

Canon Powershot A590 IS Review
August 14, 2008
Imaging Resource have just reviewed the new Canon Powershot A590 IS - like the A580 it features an 8 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom lens, 2.5″ screen, face detection focus, and takes AA batteries - but adds full manual controls, support for optional lens accessories, and optical image stabilisation. The A590 is available for £111 making it the cheapest Canon available with optical image stabilisation.
“The camera performs well in a variety of situations, with fairly good overall responsiveness and timing, producing good quality images, with good exposure and overall color. The availability of a 15-second maximum shutter time and the varying level of manual exposure control are also great bonuses, making the camera much more flexible than many in its price range.”

August 13, 2008

Yesterday, during the Global Mobility Event at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Dell presented its upcoming mobility solutions including the latest high-end technologies the company uses in its new portable computers.
We were anxious to bring you all the details about it so we got in touch with digitalNOMADS on Twitter, keeping an eye on their tweets sent directly from the conference. digitalNOMADS is a new online community launched by Dell, where you are invited to share ideas, tips, tricks and best practices.
They mentioned a new laptop technology called Dell Latitude On with lots of communication enhancements such as instant access to the emails, contacts and web, capable to operate for several days using a new battery technology. Next, Dell introduced new smaller power adapter about the size of a Blackberry smartphone but thinner, and it also announced breaking the 19-hour laptop battery life barrier with the E6400 model, via the All Day Battery mode setting, using a battery slice and a 9-cell battery.
digitalNOMADS unveiled also the new Precision workstation with 1TB storage capacity and quad-core processing technology.
Another important announcement was of the new keyboard models with increased ergonomics, extra durability, backlight and other new cool features totalizing 40 new attributes, making them the best keyboards Dell ever produced.
Today we got more details from the Dell’s press release and we can tell you that the new business laptops continuing the Dell Latitude laptops line, come in a few color options, Regatta Blue, Regal Red and Quartz Pink, with up to 19 hours of battery life from a single charge, and allow you to choose the one suiting your needs best, from ultra-portable models like the 12.2-inch E4200 with a weight of 2.2 pounds, to high-end advanced notebooks such as the15.4-inch E6500 designed to replace desktop computers and bring high-performance on the go.
How they optimized the battery life:
“Since 1995, we’ve shipped more business laptops worldwide than anyone,” said Michael Dell, chairman and CEO of Dell. “This, and our 5 million plus conversations a day with customers, gives us real insight into the needs of the digital nomad. Today we’re translating that insight into breakthrough productivity, portability and design. The new Latitudes are breathtaking.”
Design enhancements of the new Dell Latitude laptops include a semi-rugged 14.1-inch model priced at ,399, tested to meet Military 810F standards for dust, vibration and humidity, as well as full-frame magnesium alloy construction with all-metal hinges, the Dell ControlPoint accessing user settings for power management, connectivity configurations and security management in a single application, intelligent backlight for the keyboard adjusting according to the ambient light levels, intelligent security sub-processors with embedded non-volatile storage that centralizes and helps protect user credentials and security keys, and sophisticated keyboards with unique features described in the following video.
“The new Latitude laptops and Dell Precision mobile workstations represent the largest client product development effort in the history of Dell,” said Jeff Clarke, senior vice president, Dell Product Group. “We’ve invested more than 1 million engineering hours and the result is a family of head-turning products that are as solid on the inside as on the outside, with features that enable better security, manageability and productivity.”
The new Dell Latitude On-enabled notebook gives users instant access to basic applications including email, attachments, calendar and web, without booting into the system’s main operating system. Latitude E4200 and Latitude E4300, the upcoming models using this technology, provide up to 19-hours of battery life based on the dedicated low-voltage sub-processor and operating system.
For highest mobile performance Dell introduced the 17-inch mobile workstation coming in cool orange housing with anodized aluminum chassis, and integrating up to 16GB of RAM memory, with graphics powered by a 1GB card. The processor model is, of course, a quad-core, while the storage capacity reaches 1TB on 2 drives.
Dell Latitude E5500 is a 14.1-inch laptop available at a starting price of 9, which offers a cost-effective solution for every-day tasks.
Another innovation in Dell’s laptop range is encountered at the Latitude E4200, which comes with a halogen-free laminates motherboard, halogen-free chassis plastics and fan housing, packed in a 99%-recyclable material.
Until we’ll feature each of these new laptops from Dell, let’s see what other improvements are. Here we have external SATA drive connections, DisplayPort, USB PowerShare, wireless draft N support, mobile broadband connectivity, WWAN, Bluetooth 2.1, WiMAX ready, GPS, contactless smart card, next-generation SSD drives, and dual pointing devices.
