EA Showcase 08: Hands-on with NERF N-Strike for the Wii
August 15, 2008

NERF N-Strike is easily going to have the best peripheral ever made for a game. You will actually get a real working NERF gun that also doubles as the gun cradle for the Wiimote. There will be a removable one-shot NERF launcher where the Wiimote fits, and the NERF gun is even designed to accept the MotionPlus and allows for the Nunchuk to plug in for easy access.
There will be a story for the single-player mode, designed in a Saturday morning cartoon fashion, where the main character joins an elite NERF group and fights with NERF guns against robots. This is a kids’ game after all, so there won’t be any humans that are yelling out horrible one-liners to shoot at.
The game will support up to four players with around 24 events to play. I played a game with Emily from Ripten where we had to shoot as many balls as we could. Each time we hit a ball, a machine hanging above the stage would paint the ball your team’s colors until all the balls were destroyed.
Players will have access to 25 guns, 12 of which are real NERF guns and 13 of which are brand new NERF guns designed for N-Strike. I played with a handgun, an automatic rifle and a sniper rifle during my playtime.
The game basically feels like Time Crisis, but with NERF guns. The main downside to all of this is that the gun and game package will cost .99, and the gun by itself will go for .99. That’s a great price point for the gun, but no arcade-style on-rails shooter is worth more than . Both the gun and game will be out in your local videogame section and toy section this November 4 for the Wii.
Your questions
August 15, 2008
Have you ever wondered how the Universe started How did we get here And what other secrets are out in space
On September 10, scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) will try to answer these and other questions by re-creating the conditions that existed just billionths of a second after the Big Bang.
The BBC will join scientists as they switch on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a giant subterranean machine that will probe the mysteries of the cosmos.
By smashing together tiny particles, it is hoped that the LHC will reveal the origins of mass, show us what all the invisible matter in the cosmos is made of, and perhaps even create mini black holes.
Professor Brian Cox is one of the LHC scientists and a physicist at CERN. He is on hand to answer you questions about the project and what could be found.
Send in your Big Bang questions using the form below.

Apple iPhone 3G can now glow its logo like MacBook?
August 15, 2008
When it comes to class and style in designing products, one has to give it to Apple, they sure know their design business. Apple at least seems to care about the overall appearance of their finished products, unlike some companies.
Take the Apple iPod for example, it looks great; the Apple Mac stands out and looks far better than most PC’s; and then there is the famous Apple iPhone that speaks for itself in style and features.

Apple MacBooks are well known for their glowing Apple logo, and apple seemed to neglect to add this cool feature on their iconic iPhone 3G. That is until now.
For those that love the glowing Apple logo there is now a new mod for iPhones which allows you to make the Apple logo on the back of the handset glow just like the MacBook ones. The new modding consists of removing the aluminium “fruits” and then inserting glowing ones.
Once done you can adjust the glow settings on the iPhone menu. What’s more is we are hearing that the iPhone’s battery is not affected too much, although this is unconfirmed.
There’s a video below showing you the glowing Apple iPhone 3G logo.

A quick look back at the history of the telephone
August 15, 2008
Ever wondered where the word hello comes from when greeting someone on thee phone? Well here’s a bit of history for you. In 1877, Thomas Edison suggested using the word “hello” as a telephone greeting, and as you know, the idea caught on.
It wasn’t Edison though who invented what we now see as our main form of communication, that honour falls to Alexander Graham Bell, clever guy that Bell.

Edison’s sole contribution was the salutation we all now use when answering the phone, hello or a variation of.
The first words ever spoken over what we now call a telephone was spoken by Bell and they were: “Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you.” And obviously this first telephone message went unanswered.
Originally the telephone was supposed to be a connection between two offices with a continuous open line, and looked upon as a business machine.
And well we all know where the telephone went from there don’t we? Apple iPhone 3G, BlackBerry, HTC, Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, LG, need I go on?
