Samsung Omnia in stock now at Mobiles.co.uk
August 15, 2008
The Samsung Omnia has launched in the UK and is now in stock and available to order at Mobiles.co.uk! A few weeks back we posted information relating to the July 22nd launch in Italy followed by a late August launch for the rest of Europe. So it would seem that Samsung has sat up and taken notice of our accusations of favouritism to the Italians by bumping the launch date forward by a couple of weeks. The squeaky wheel gets the grease it would seem! So let’s celebrate the launch of this mobile phone by having a little recap of what the Omnia’s got in its locker.
Omnia, the Latin word for everything, pretty much sums up what the Samsung phone is hiding under the hood. A touch screen phone running on the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional platform,
stand out features include a built in GPS receiver, HSDPA Mobile Broadband connectivity, Wi-Fi, 8Gb of internal memory, Bluetooth v2.0, Handwriting recognition and pocket office (meaning pocket versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Oh, and did I forget to mention the 5.0 Megapixel camera? Not just any 5.0 Megapixel camera though, think auto focus, face detection, smile detection (waiting for all the faces in the shot to smile before capturing), image stabiliser, flash and QVGA video recording at 30 fps and you get the picture (pun intended!).
Samsung’s tagline “Everything in one touch” says it all really. So what are you waiting for? Head on over to Mobiles.co.uk and be on of the first to get your hands on this terrific touch screen mobile phone! Just click here!
Smartphone memory boost from new Samsung software
August 15, 2008
Samsung has announced they are to roll out software that has been designed to improve embedded flash memory within their range of smartphones.
Samsung has said this new software will optimise data transactions within its memory chips while interacting with a Windows Mobile, Linux, Symbian, or real-time OS. Samsung states this will bring about speedier booting, searches, and downloads which will greatly increase power performance.
Samsung’s new software file systems include PocketFS, RFS, and UniFS, these execute file operations such as creating, reading, writing, and deleting files.
Samsung says: these flash drivers can also prolong the mobile phones lifetime, and is achieved by converting “file system requests into low-level flash operations and by wear-levelling and bad-block replacing.”
VP of Samsung’s memory division, Young Joon Choi, said: “The new software, which upgrades performance of our embedded memory solutions, is expected to make OneNAND and other high-performance, high-density memory solutions such as the 16-GB movieNAND desirable for advanced handsets.”

Canon EOS 450D Rebel XSi DSLR Review
August 14, 2008
ThinkCamera have reviewed the new Canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi - a 12.2 megapixel update to the 400D - it features 3.5fps shooting, live view shooting, 9 point AF, 3″ screen, SD memory card support, and Canon’s dust reduction system. The 450D Body only is priced at £429, the EOS 450D with 18-55mm IS kit is £449.
“There are one or two minor hiccups; live view arguably being the biggest. The LV system uses contrast-detection autofocus, which is from the ‘accurate, but glacial’ school. It’s perfect for tripod-based still life or macro shots of non-moving things, but it falls way behind the more useful systems found in current Olympus and especially Sony DSLRs.”
